Fall Reset, Deaf Queen: How I’m Reclaiming My Routine After Summer
Hey Deaf Queen,
Let’s be real. Summer? Fun, wild, freeing—but also a little chaotic. Between late nights, skipped routines, and that why-is-my-email-a-war-zone energy, September hits different.
Now, it’s time to reset. Realign. Reclaim our peace and power.
This fall, I’m rebuilding habits that fuel me—with intention, balance, and Deaf community pride at the center.
And because I know starting over can feel a lot, I created a free Fall Reset Toolkit to help you take back your rhythm. It includes:
Fall Reset, Deaf Queen: How I’m Reclaiming My Routine After Summer
- A printable habit tracker that actually makes sense
- Visual ASL graphics for daily affirmations
- A simple weekly planning sheet (no fluff, just structure)

Why Fall Is the Perfect Time to Reset
January gets all the hype, but September is a real one when it comes to fresh starts. The weather shifts. Schedules change. Energy softens. It’s a natural pause that whispers: check in with yourself.
For me, summer usually means travel, events, and last-minute everything. By September, my routines are in shambles. My sleep schedule? No comment. My skincare routine? Ghosted. My to-do list? Gave up on me.
So every fall, I come home to myself. Not through perfection, but through gentle structure.
Here’s how I’m doing it this year—and how you can too.
Step 1: Make Space Before You Add Structure
Before you pile on new goals, pause. Clear space. That means:
- Declutter your schedule (say no more often)
- Clean one area that’s been bothering you (just one)
- Brain dump your stress on paper (no editing)
Resetting is emotional work. You’re not lazy. You’re tired from carrying too much.
Quick Check-In:
- What’s draining me?
- What’s not working anymore?
- What do I actually want from this season?
Write it out. Clarity before consistency.
Step 2: Pick 2 Keystone Habits
Don’t try to overhaul everything. That’s the fastest path to burnout. Pick just two habits that will support everything else.
My two this fall:
- Morning grounding ritual (stretch, water, ASL affirmation)
- Nightly screen-free hour (to sleep better + think clearly)
These might look different for you. Maybe it’s:
- Meal prepping once a week
- Checking your calendar daily
- ASL journaling with a timer
Choose habits that ripple. The kind that make other choices easier.

Step 3: Build Routines That Actually Work for You
A routine isn’t a prison. It’s a path back to yourself.
Here’s how I keep mine realistic:
💡 Use visual cues
I use ASL cards from the toolkit to remind myself of daily intentions. Put them on your mirror, fridge, or workspace.
🔄 Stack habits
Attach a new habit to something you already do.
- While waiting for coffee = 2-minute gratitude journaling
- After brushing teeth = nightly intention
📅 Theme your days
Instead of long to-do lists, give each day a focus:
- Monday: planning + admin
- Tuesday: deep work
- Wednesday: Deaf community connection
Less switching = more calm.
Step 4: Keep It Consistent, Not Perfect
The goal isn’t to be perfect. It’s to stay in the game.
If you miss a day? Shrug it off. Restart tomorrow. That’s real consistency.
I use a three-part rule to stay on track:
- Track 3 times a week. Not every day. Just enough to stay present.
- Adjust monthly. Life changes. Routines should too.
- Celebrate small wins. Didn’t scroll for 30 minutes? That counts.
Consistency is built in small, doable steps. Keep showing up.
Why This Matters for the Deaf Community
Deaf life moves differently. We process visually. We navigate barriers. Our energy gets drained in ways most don’t see.
That’s why intentional rest, structure, and visual-friendly tools matter.
When we own our routines, we reclaim power in a world that doesn’t always consider us.
This toolkit is Deaf-made and Deaf-centered. It speaks our language.
We deserve resources that work for us, not around us.
