The 5 Items I Always Keep On My Nightstand
If I had to make a wild guess, you probably already have a light lamp and an alarm clock on your nightstand. So those were the first things added when I finally got a nightstand. The nightstand is usually right next to the bed, and it is a perfect spot to dump everything you like and easy to reach (I want to place my hearing aids there too). A few items have been sitting on the nightstand before, but I will rave and share what lights my soul and makes a difference in my mood and thoughts before I shut my eyes.
I have this terrible habit of using my phone in the middle of the night – no wonder why I would be cranky the following day. I have to pay the price when I don’t stick to my goal. It’d be an ideal goal for me to put my phone in another room or put the phone that’s not reachable near my bed. A bit of everything to exercise my brain, rest, and wind down for a beautiful sleep. I usually get into a better mood the following day. It gives me a sense of self-accomplishment that I’ve finished the day with a good intention of self-care, rest, and have mentally prepared myself to start a day with one to three goals.
Other items have visited my nightstand, but I will babble about the five things that will always have a spot on the small space of my nightstand. Those items have become essential tools for me to unwind to rest in my bed, and that’s something I would do instead of watching T.V. before I finally shut my eyes.
- A Large Cup of Water
Drink some water before, during, and after. It is an epic life-saver when I get dehydrated in the middle of the night. I would hate to get up from my bed to grab a drink that I didn’t prepare myself for ahead of time. The large wide mason jar is about 3 cups. The human brain cannot function well if we aren’t hydrated enough. I’ve always liked the feeling of the moment when my brain is refreshed with fresh water.
2. Extra Strength Sleep Vitamins by Olly
Boost sleep kicking-in. Olly’s Extra Strength Sleep vitamins have Melatonin, L-Theanine & Botancial. I take two gummies. I like to take it right before I am ready to read a book; within the vitamins are doing their job. I’ve been taking sleep vitamins for a few months, and I am almost out of my second bottle. Even so, it has made some difference in my sleep. A few weeks before I started using them, my sleep schedule had been off which was affecting my mental state. To date I can sleep a bit longer and sleep better without my anxious thoughts kicked in, for which I am grateful.
3. Raw Brown Sugar Lip Scrub & Lip Moisturizer
The cheap lip scrub from Elf makes a massive difference on my lips. I am obsessed with how it feels on my lips! I use the raw sugar lip scrub and it usually takes about 10-15 minutes before all the Raw sugar dissolves on my lips. Then I put on another lip moisturizer, a little extra moisturizer, because I love myself so much. I prefer using Aquaphor lip protectant + sunscreen. This simple nightly lip-care pays off in the morning when I wake up.
4. Hand Lotion
As the fall season is starting, my hands tend to get drier and drier when I continue to wash my hands all day. So I got Beloved hand lotion from the drugstore, and I love their smell! I’m able to put it in my purse and the carry the hand lotion anywhere.
5. The Book I am Currently Reading & LED Clip On Reading Light
Can we not make fun of my picture since it is not aesthetic and I didn’t bother to buy a new book. I enjoy borrowing books from the library. I can get lost in thriller and mystery books for days and finish the story without rereading it for a long time. For that reason, I appreciate the library books. Right now it is Halloween month, so I definitely wanted to read something from Stephen King. I happened to find the Misery book. So far, I am enjoying the book! Although I have a lamp, I still like to use the LED clip on the reading light. I love that I can move anywhere in my bed without needing the light lamp or becoming stuck in one position too long.
Whenever it’s near bedtime, I get ready for the night. I like to give myself about 30 minutes before I finally sleep. On my nightstand, I’d be sure to have a large cup of water, hand lotion, lip moisturizer, and a book with the reading light. Having those essential items on my nightstand gives me the motivation to get lost in the book.
What’s your must-have on your nightstand? Or an item that will always have a spot on your nightstand no matter what? I’d like to know.
Butterfly kisses,
Donna
