Deaf, Determined & Decluttering: My 3-Day Mini Spring Cleaning Journey

Spring always stirs something in my soul. It whispers, “Fresh start, Deaf Queen.” After months of hibernating under heavy blankets (literally and emotionally), I finally decided to do something small—but mighty—for my space, energy, and clarity.

I call it: The 3-Day Mini Spring Cleaning Reset.

This wasn’t about becoming some TikTok-level minimalist. This was about clearing the mental and physical clutter that was blocking my glow-up.

And guess what? I made a free printable toolkit just for you—complete with a 3-day checklist, ASL habit tracker, and Deaf-friendly visuals to keep you motivated. 💌

Why I Needed This Reset (and Maybe You Do Too)

Let me be real: I was overwhelmed. Between classes, content creation, and trying to heal old wounds, my apartment became a silent witness to my burnout. My sink was full. My mind was full. And I realized—I don’t need a perfect home, just one that supports my peace.

So instead of making a long, unrealistic to-do list, I chose a 3-day reset. Just three days. Simple, structured, and soul-soothing.

📋 The 3-Day Mini Spring Cleaning Plan

Day 1: Clear Your Surfaces, Clear Your Mind

Goals:

  • Wipe down visible surfaces
  • Recycle, toss, or rehome anything in plain sight
  • Light a calming candle or incense

My Wins:

I cleaned off my desk and coffee table. No more mail piles, broken pens, or sticky notes from two semesters ago. I felt instantly lighter. I also signed “peace” to myself in the mirror after I finished. Sometimes we need visual affirmation.

Day 2: Deep Dive—One Zone Only

Goals:

  • Choose one messy zone (closet, bathroom, fridge, etc.)
  • Use the 5-second rule: If I don’t love it or use it, out it goes
  • Take a photo before & after (you’ll thank me later)

My Zone: My bathroom.

It felt like a CVS exploded under my sink. Half-used products, expired samples, empty bottles—gone. I used clear bins from Dollar Tree, labeled everything, and rewarded myself with a peppermint face mask. #GlowUpActivated

Day 3: Home Vibes + Reset Rituals

Goals:

  • Quick sweep or vacuum of high-traffic areas
  • Add 1 item that sparks joy (fresh flowers, new pillowcase, diffuser)
  • End with a ritual: Tea, prayer, journaling, or ASL affirmation

My Ritual:

I ended with my ASL journaling time. I lit a small candle, sat on my clean floor, and filmed myself signing what I’m proud of. I didn’t share it—it was just for me.

Tips for Staying Consistent (Without Burning Out)

  1. Don’t clean everything—clean intentionally.
One drawer > whole dresser. Small progress adds up.
  2. Set visual cues.
Use sticky notes or simple ASL drawings on your mirror or door. Keep your eyes inspired.
  3. Use a timer (15–30 minutes).
It creates urgency without stress. When the timer ends, you’re done!
  4. Celebrate the tiny wins.
Post-cleaning selfie? Cup of tea? Text a friend? YES to all.
  5. Create a reward ritual.
Something peaceful after every cleaning session. You’re rewiring your brain to associate decluttering with calm—not chaos.

🧹 Why This Matters for the Deaf Community

Cleaning and organizing might seem small, but for Deaf individuals (especially those navigating stress, limited access, or isolation), it can be deeply empowering.

  • Clear spaces = clearer communication.
Visual noise is real. A messy room can feel overwhelming when you rely on visual cues and signing.
  • ASL-based cleaning routines = self-trust.
I record myself doing little “vlog-style” ASL videos—“Today I’m cleaning the shelf”—and it helps me feel seen, heard, and consistent.
  • You model Deaf excellence just by resetting.
When other Deaf friends see your decluttering journey, they might feel inspired too. It’s contagious—in the best way.

Let’s lead by example, even in our quiet corners of the world.

Web-Friendly Formatting Tips I Used

To keep this post clean and clickable:

  • Used clear subheadings for each day
  • Added ✅ checklists and 📌 emojis to boost visual accessibility
  • Broke up text with 2–3 sentence paragraphs
  • Mid-post and end-of-post CTAs with bolded links

You can do the same in your own blog posts or journaling, too!

Final Thoughts: Cleaning Is a Form of Self-Love

You don’t need the perfect home. You just need a space that supports the next version of you.

Whether you’re Deaf, determined, or simply done with mess, you deserve the kind of peace that doesn’t come from buying more—but from creating less noise.

If you try this 3-day journey, tag me or DM me. I’d love to celebrate your wins with you. 🫶

And remember: this isn’t about being productive. It’s about coming back to yourself. One cleared surface at a time.

Love,
