My Summer Morning Routine as a Deaf CEO-in-Training (Behind-the-Scenes Vlog + Free Template)

Hey, friends!

I’m Donna, and if you’re new here: welcome. I’m Deaf, proudly running a growing lifestyle brand built to uplift our community. Today, I’m giving you a behind-the-scenes look at my summer morning routine—the real, unfiltered version. This isn’t about aesthetic perfection. It’s about structure, self-respect, and showing up as the CEO-in-training I know I am.

To help you build your own grounded, energizing mornings, I made a free printable toolkit just for you. It includes:

  • A summer morning habit tracker
  • Visual ASL signs for common morning words (like COFFEE, BRUSH TEETH, MEDITATE)
  • A “Design Your Deaf CEO Morning” template

Why a Morning Routine Matters (Especially for Deaf Professionals)

Our days are full of communication friction, visual overstimulation, and shifting emotional energy. Starting the day with clarity and self-direction isn’t a luxury—it’s survival. I built my routine to reduce anxiety, avoid burnout, and take back control over my time and mental space.

Whether you’re a Deaf student, entrepreneur, or full-time parent, these small shifts can add up to big stability.

My Summer Morning Routine, Step-by-Step

6:30 AM — Wake Up (No Audio Alarms Here)

I use a vibrating alarm clock (you can also use a smartwatch or under-pillow alert device). I wake up in silence, which is honestly a gift. No harsh beeping. Just vibration and sunlight.

6:45 AM — Stretch + Visual Gratitude

Instead of jumping into tasks, I give myself 5 minutes to stretch and mentally list 3 things I’m grateful for. I use a dry erase board with basic ASL signs like THANKFUL and TODAY to reinforce the visual habit.

Pro tip: Add small ASL flashcards to your mirror to build signs into your daily muscle memory.

7:00 AM — Light Breakfast + Quick Read

I keep breakfast simple: fruit, toast, or oatmeal. While eating, I read for 15-20 minutes. Not email. Not texts. Real, nourishing content—usually a memoir or leadership book. This fills my brain with something positive before the work chaos starts.

Current read: “Radical Candor” by Kim Scott.

7:30 AM — Movement + Mindfulness

Some mornings I do yoga with captions on YouTube. Other times, it’s a walk with a notepad to jot ideas. I use a visual meditation timer (highly recommend Insight Timer app with visual cues) to sit in silence and reset.

Checklist Tip: Include a “5-Minute Silence Reset” box in your tracker—it helps!

8:00 AM — Check Planner + Prioritize

I use a color-coded visual planner with icons and short phrases. This keeps my executive function focused and minimizes decision fatigue. I block my top 3 priorities using color:

  • Blue = Creative Work
  • Green = Admin
  • Red = Urgent

What I skip: Endless to-do lists. Keep it short and visual.

What This Routine Does for Me (and the Deaf Community)

  • Reduces mental fatigue: Starting my day with structure lowers the visual overload I deal with all day.
  • Models self-leadership: As a Deaf woman, I don’t wait for someone to hand me power. I build it, daily.
  • Builds language access: Using ASL graphics in daily routines helps normalize sign language in personal spaces.

If more of us share how we structure our lives, we stop being “exceptions” and start being examples.

Avoiding Overwhelm: Start Small, Keep Going

Let’s be real: you won’t do all of this tomorrow. And you don’t have to.

Start with 3 Habits

Pick three things from my list above that speak to you. Add them to your toolkit. Don’t try to be perfect—try to be consistent.

Use Visual Cues

We process information visually. Use:

  • Sticky notes with ASL signs
  • Color-coded checklists
  • Wall calendars with icons

Track, Celebrate, Repeat

Use the free habit tracker I made for you (PDF download above!) to track progress. Celebrate small wins.

3 days of calm mornings? Celebrate. That’s a win.
